In The Field Of Energy Raw Materials, The Federal Institute For Geosciences And Raw Materials (Bgr) Carries Out A Wide Range Of Experimental Studies On Geochemical And Microbial Reactions In The Deeper Subsurface On Questions In The Areas Of Mineral Raw Materials, Final Storage, Use Of The Deeper Subsoil And Energy Raw Materials. This Work Includes Both Our Own Research Projects And Work In Cooperation With Other Partners In Joint Third-Party Funded Projects Or In Projects Commissioned By The Bmwe. In General, By Carrying Out Highly Specialized Experimental Investigations At The Bgr, The Advisory Competence Of The Department In Collaboration With Other Areas Of The Bgr Is Increased And Represents A Unique Selling Point In Some Areas. For This Purpose, Experimental Options For Investigating Gas-Fluid-Solid Reactions, Including In Flowing Systems, With The Help Of, For Example, Microfluidic Flow Cells Or In Heated Viewing Chambers, Are Used And Further Developed. In Order To Assess Risks In Questions Relating To H2 Storage, (Medium) Deep Geothermal Energy, Co2 Storage, Final Storage And Reaction Fronts In Soils And Aquifers, Investigations Into The Flow Of Fluid And Gas Through Pore Spaces Must Be Carried Out Under Very Precise Hydrodynamic Control. For This Purpose, This Additional Procurement Creates The Equipment Possibilities To Characterize The Processes In The Pore Spaces Of Microfluidic Chips, Such As Mineral Solution/Precipitation During Flow, Much More Precisely In Three Dimensions Than Is Possible In Conventional Core Flow Systems - With Resolution Of, For Example, Local Flow Velocity And Local Chemistry. The Addition Of A Special Confocal Detector System And An Additional Camera To The Existing Nikon Microscope System With Raman Coupling Enables The High-Speed Recording Of Reactions And Transport Processes In Dynamic, Flow-Through Experimental Microfluidic Systems On The Pore Space Scale In The Micrometer Scale.
