Tenders are invited for Planetary Protection - Risk Informed Decision Models for Icy Worlds - Expro+ ObjectivesCreate a probability of contamination model that will guide mission teams in assessing the planetary protection categoryand implementing associated requirements. This model will include a conservative estimate of poorly known parameters, such as:i) bioburden at launchii) cruise survival for contaminating organismsiii) organism survival in the radiation environmentiv) probability of landing on Europa or Enceladusv) mechanisms and timescales of transport to a subsurface liquid water environmentvi) organismsurvival and proliferation before, during, and after subsurface transferDescriptionThe activity will give mission teams increasedflexibility when implementing Planetary Protection and will result in cheaper, more sustainable, and responsible exploration of IcyWorlds.The work will be divided into different work packages, aimed at:acquiring scientific dataintegrating such data into the model.Collection of data:WP1: Bioburden at launch and survivability. This task will examine existing molecular biology and metagenomics data, as well as produce new ones as applicable.Phenotypic predictions from metagenomic datasets and using suitable training datasets from public repositories.WP2: Transport mechanism in Icy Worlds, modelling transport of contamination with focus on Enceladus. This work package will consider:Estimated depth ranges (spread)Most likely depth (average)Estimated transport time from surface to subsurface waterWP3: Reliability of spacecraft, using engineering/mission parameters, environmental specification for the mission.Integration of data:WP4: Use the data to put together a probabilistic model aided by Bayesian statistics.
