Work Detail
Stone Carving - Gotha Friedenstein Castle, Tp Ii.1 - West Wing, Parts Of The West Tower As Well As Emergency Protection, Renovation Of Arcade Pillars - Ve 02 Natural Stone, Master Builder, Steel Construction And Security Work. As Part Of The Sub-Project Tp-Ii.1, The Most Damaged - And Currently Emergency Secured - Arcade Pillars No. W3, W7, W8, W9, W10 And W11 (Total = 6 Pieces) On The West Wing Are To Be Renovated, Repaired And Strengthened. The Historic Arcade Pillars Are Severely Damaged By Loss Of Substance, Material Fatigue And Local Overloading. Damage And Defects: Cracks And Breaks In Stone, Gaping Joints, Spalling, Softening Of Stone And Joint Material, Misalignments, Depressions And Bulges Of The Pillar Shafts, Shifts In Base Stones, Softening In The Core Mw As Well As The Bonding Zones Between The Cuboid Mw And The Core Mw. The Controlled Load Transfer From Rising Floors And Connecting Arcade Arches Via The Arcade Pillars Into The Foundations Is Limited And No Longer Fully Guaranteed. The Arcade Pillars Of The West, East And South Wings Have Undergone Many Local Repairs In Recent Decades; Mostly Through The Use Of Small-Scale Stones And Crossings Close To The Surface, Which Preserved The External Appearance, But Did Not Improve The Static-Structural Structure Or Load Transfer. As Part Of This Work, The Damaged, Less Durable (Brownish) Latvian Coal Sandstones In The Shaft And Arch Area Were Partially Replaced With (Yellowish) Räthsandsteine Or Elbe Sandstones. Deeper Damage And The Inadequate Connection Between Core Mw And External Mw; And The Negative Influences Of The Softened Intermediate Areas Could Not Be Remedied. Most Recently, In 2023, The Critical And Most Damaged Arcade Pillars Were Statically Secured By Tying The Shaft And Base Areas Using A Wooden Structure (Squared Timber) And Tension Straps. In 2025, An Exemplary Repair Of The W14 Arcade Pillar Took Place, During Which The Renovation Technology Was Tested. In Addition, Insights Into The Existing Natural Stone Construction And The Internal Structure Of The Arcade Pillar Were Gained. In The Currently Planned Complex Static-Constructive Renovation Measures, Natural Stone, Master Builder, Steel Construction, Solid Construction, Dismantling, Earthworks, Scaffolding And Securing Work Will Be Carried Out On The Six Arcade Pillar Areas To Be Worked On.
