Work Detail
Preservation Services Of Historical Sites And Buildings – Valorization Of The Luther Monument Berlin -Id25140ge. The Project Task Is To Utilize The Parts Preserved From The Historic Luther Monument In Berlin-Mitte. The Luther Monument, Planned In 1897 Based On A Design By The Sculptor Paul Otto And Completed After His Death By The Sculptor Robert Toberentz On The Neuer Markt, Consisted Of A Central, Approx. 3.5M High Bronze Luther Figure And Eight Accompanying Figures, Which Were Grouped Together On An Approx. 10.5M X 10.5M Large Stair Base. The Base, Made Of Red Swedish Granite With A Granite Balustrade, Was Reached Via A Central, Ten-Step Flight Of Stairs. The Maximum Total Height Of The Monument Was 8.20 M. Until The Kaiser Wilhelm I National Monument At Schlossfreiheit Was Completed In 1897, It Was Considered The Most Extensive Monument Complex In Berlin. In 1943, The Bronze Figures Of The Luther Monument, With The Exception Of The Luther Figure, Were Dismantled And Presumably Melted Down. What Remained Survived The War Damaged And Was Cleared Away Around 1950. Only The Foundations Remained At The Historic Site. The Bronze Figure Of Luther And The Associated Plinth Were Secured Outside The City And Temporarily Re-Erected North Of St. Marys Church In October 1989. The Result Of An Ideas Competition To Create A New Luther Monument In 2016 Was Not Implemented, But The Bronze Luther Figure Was Returned From The Location North Of St. Marys Church To Its Historic Location, Again On A Temporary Base. The Design Of Todays Base Does Not Currently Do Justice To The Importance Of Luther And His Monument, Nor The Required Information About Luther And The History Of The Monument, Nor The Central, Highly Frequented Location. The Currently Planned Revaluation Is To Take Place At The Location Of The Largely No Longer Preserved Monument From The 19Th Century And Within Its Boundaries. A Concept Is Expected That Safeguards The Preserved Listed Elements Of The Original Monument (Luther Bronze Figure, Plinth And Foundations) In An Appropriate, Representative And Dignified Manner, And Presents Them Visibly In An Urban Context And Makes Them Barrier-Free Accessible. The Position, Form, Construction And Design Of Its Performance Should Be Contemporary And Appropriate To Luthers Work As A Reformer. A Reconstruction Of The 1895 Monument Or Parts Of It Is Not Planned. Although The Monument Itself Has Fewer Urban Planning Requirements, The Urban Planning And Open Space Context With Its Many Historical Turning Points That Characterize This Public Space Must Be Taken Into Account. Please Note The Existing Plans For The Redesign Of The Outdoor Areas Of The Town Hall Forum, The Area Of Tension Between St. Marys Church, Spandauer And Karl-Liebknecht Street, The Spatial Relationship To The Monument To Moses Mendelssohn And To The Public Green Spaces At The Television Tower. In The Process, Suggestions For Adjustments To The Existing Planning For The
