Feb 2026 Background The Business Incubation Association in Tripoli (BIAT), in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), is implementing the FIELD (Food Innovation for Enterprises, Livelihoods & Development) Project. FIELD is an initiative aimed at strengthening food system resilience in Akkar and North Lebanon. The project supports smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating across priority agricultural and agro-processing value chains through integrated interventions, including capacity building, technical assistance, access to finance, quality testing, and market facilitation. A core component of FIELD is an interest coverage mechanism, whereby BIAT facilitates access to finance by covering the full interest cost of approved loans, while loan capital and repayment remain the sole responsibility of the beneficiary and the selected Micro-Finance Institution (MFI). Call Description The Business Incubation Association in Tripoli (BIAT) invites licensed Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) to provide loans and microcredit for selected farmers and food related MSMEs in Akkar and North Lebanon, under an interest-free arrangement for beneficiaries, enabled through BIATs interest coverage mechanism. Scope of Engagement - Providing loan and microcredit products to selected beneficiaries - Assessing and approving loan applications prepared with BIAT support - Disbursing loans directly to beneficiaries - Coordinating with BIAT on the interest coverage mechanism Eligibility Criteria - Be legally registered and licensed in Lebanon - Have at least three years of operational experience - Be licensed to provide loans to individuals and MSMEs - Have operational capacity to serve Akkar and North Lebanon Loan Conditions Loan structure, installment schedules, and repayment modalities will be defined by the selected Microfinance Institution in line with its internal policies. Beneficiaries will repay the loan principal according to an agreed installment plan, which may be monthly or seasonal depending on the nature of the activity. The interest amount applied by the Microfinance Institution will be fully covered by BIAT under the interest coverage mechanism. Loan Simulation Requirement Interested Microfinance Institutions are required to include a loan simulation as part of their application for the following loan amounts: - USD 1,000 - USD 5,000 - USD 10,000 For each loan amount, the simulation must clearly indicate: - Loan duration - Loan Amount - Installment frequency - Installment amount - Applicable interest rate - Total interest amount - Total repayment value Interest Coverage Mechanism - BIAT will cover the interest amount of approved loans - Beneficiaries will repay the loan principal only - BIAT is not responsible for loan repayment or defaults Duration of Engagement The engagement is for the duration of the FIELD project, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement. The duration of the engagement between the loan receiver and the MFI is subject to the loan agreement signed between the 2 parties.
