Geothermal energy, as a renewable and versatile resource, offers significant potential for contributing to these objectives. While Mexico has made strides in geothermal power generation, the direct use of geothermal energy remains underdeveloped. Direct applications, such as heating, cooling, industrial processes and others, can provide substantial environmental and economic benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and enhanced energy efficiency. The Government of Mexico, through its Secretariat of Energy (SENER), seeks to strengthen its capacity to design and implement policies, regulations, and programs that promote diverse uses of geothermal energy. This technical assistance activity will focus on developing a roadmap for policy and regulatory frameworks, conducting sector analyses, and identifying opportunities for resource utilization and investment in geothermal energy. The primary objective of this assignment is to support SENER in creating a comprehensive roadmap for the development of diverse uses of geothermal energy. This roadmap will address policy and regulatory gaps, technology available, investment and market analyses, and resource utilization opportunities. Additionally, the activity aims to facilitate knowledge exchange on successful international experiences and innovations and explore instruments to expand investments and accelerate geothermal energy deployment.
