Museum Nord Is A Non-Profit, State-Supported Organization In The Norwegian National Museum Network, Which Runs 21 Different Museums In Northern Nordland. Despite Its Location North Of The Arctic Circle, Museum Nord Is One Of Norways Most Visited Museums. Among Our 21 Facilities Are Large Facilities Such As The Lofotr Viking Museum And The Hurtigruten Museum, As Well As Many Smaller Places, Such As Village Museums And Cultural Heritage Centers With Local Significance. Www.Museumnord.No Background The Lofotr Viking Museum In Vestvågøy Is Built On The Site Of An Extraordinary Archaeological Find - The Longest Viking Longhouse Ever Found, A Seat Of Power And Home To Generations Of Chieftains. The Site Was Discovered In 1981, And In 1994 A Full-Scale Reconstruction Of The Longhouse Was Built Next To The Original, And The Museum Opened Its Doors To The Public. Lofotr Is A Major Tourist Attraction That Attracts Around 140,000 Visitors A Year, Mostly International Tourists, But Also Norwegian Tourists. In Addition To The Longhouse Itself, Lofotr Offers A Wide Range Of Experiences, Including A Newly Built Harbor Area, Blacksmith, Boats, Horses And A Wide Program Of Events And Activities. Our Visitor Center Contains An Introductory Exhibition And A Film, Last Updated In 2011, Which Will Now Be Renewed. The Reconstructed Longhouse Contains Two Rooms – The Living Room And The Party Hall – Presented By Costumed Interpreters. The Third Room In The Longhouse, The Barn (The Byre), Is Currently Used As A Multipurpose Room. The Museum Has Recently Entered Into A Partnership With The Team Producing The Animated Film Viqueens, To Be Released In 2026. The Film Is Inspired By The Objects And History Of Lofotr, And The Museum Wants To Incorporate The Films Narrative, Characters And Digital Resources In Its New Interpretation To Attract New And Younger Visitors. Museum Nord Recognizes That The Current Exhibition Does Not Provide Visitors With A Sufficiently Clear, Engaging And Emotional Introduction To History Before Entering The Longhouse. We Know That Visitors Often Do Not Understand The Key Ideas And That There Is A Lack Of Variety In Interpretation Methods. We Want To Challenge Common Myths About The Viking Age, Reflect Cultural And Social Diversity In The Viking Age, And Connect The Archaeological History Presented In The Exhibition With The Immersive Experience In The Longhouse. In Summary, Our Overall Goal Is To Create New Educational Content And New Programs On Lofotr To Improve Understanding Of The Viking Age In Borg And Lofoten, And Enhance The Visitor Experience For Both The Local Community And Tourists. We Will Also Use The Collaboration With Viqueens Film To Deliver New Exhibitions And Programmes. Www.Lofotr.No Scope Of The Work Museum Nord Is Looking For A Designer/Design Company To Deliver A New Exhibition For The Visitor Center And An Updated Room In The Longhouse Barn. The Aim Of The Assignment: To Design And Build A New Exhibition Which: · Is A Clear, Engaging And Emotional Framework For Understanding Prior To The Visit To The Longhouse. · Provides An Updated View Of The Viking Age In Lofoten. · Gives An Overview Of The History From The Discoveries And The Excavation At Borg. · Challenges Common Myths About The Viking Age. · Reflects Cultural And Social Diversity In The Viking Age. · Is Accessible, Inclusive And Diverse In Approach And Presentation Methods.
