Hengistbury Head Long Groyne On The Headland Between Poole And Christchurch Bays Has Been Reconstructed In 2024, Consisting Of Granite Rock Armour. The Structure Replaced The Original Life Expired Groyne Constructed In 1939, With A Newer Standard Of Design To Provide Coastal Erosion Protection For A Further 100+Yrs.As Part Of The Scheme A Marine ‘Environmental Enhancement’ Was Installed To Increase The Biodiversity Of The Area. This Transformed An Area Of Sandy Foreshore To A More Diverse Environment Using Limestone Reclaimed From The Deconstructed Groyne And An Array Of Marine Concrete Ecological Enhancement Units.This Contract Is To Provide Structured Intertidal And Subtidal Monitoring Of The Enhancement Over A Number Of Years, Aimed At Monitoring The Ecological Status, Growth And Biodiversity Of The Marine 'Environmental Enhancement' Installation Completed As Part Of The Coastal Defence Works On And Around Hengistbury Head Long Groyne.
