The Chojnowska Tower Is One Of The Last Preserved Fragments Of The Former Medieval City Walls Of Legnica. It Was Built In The 15Th Century As Part Of The Fortification System Protecting The City From The West, On The Road Leading To Chojnów. In The Past, It Served Defensive And Control Functions - It Was A Guard Post And A Place For Collecting Customs And Tolls. Over Time, It Lost Its Original Functions. In The Post-War Period It Was Used, Among Others, By Pttk As A Lodging House. Currently, It Is One Of The Most Valuable Fortification Monuments In Legnica - A Unique Relic Of The History Of Medieval Urban Planning In Lower Silesia. The Tower Building Is Out Of Use Due To Its Technical Condition. A Technical Condition Assessment Was Prepared For The Facility In Question, Specifying The Scope Of Work Necessary To Bring The Building To An Appropriate Technical Condition. In The Decision Of January 11, 2024, The Legnica Branch Of The Lower Silesian Provincial Conservator Of Monuments Obliged The Legnica Commune To Take Immediate Action On The Monument, Including: The Need To Repair The Roof, The Structure Of External Walls, Ceilings Over The 7Th And 8Th Floors Of The Building And The Joinery. Due To The Poor Condition Of The Trusses And The Ceiling Over The 8Th Floor, It Was Decided To Completely Demolish Them And Restore The Historical Structure Of The Roof And Ceiling, As Well As Replace The Roof Tiles With New (Historically Compatible) Nuns. The Ceiling Above The 8Th Floor Also Requires Reconstruction. The Remaining Elements Scheduled For Demolition Are Also In Poor Condition And Do Not Fulfill Their Function. In Order To Prevent Further Degradation Of The Walls, The Structure Was Strengthened By Using A Reinforced Concrete Ring Above The 8Th Floor And, Among Others, Steel Bars Between The Brick Layers Of The External Walls In Critical Places Throughout The Façade
