Tenders are invited for Separation Mechanism and LISA Launch Adapter The gravitational wave observatory LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) has been selected as ESAs third large class mission (L-3) within the Cosmic Vision programme. LISAs mission objective is to observe gravitational waves from space in the frequency band of 0.1 mHz to 1 Hz, not accessible from ground-based observatories. The mission architecture consists of a constellation of three spacecraft placed at the vertexes of a near-equilateral triangle with side length of about 2.5 million km (LISA Constellation). An overview of the LISA mission and its objectives can be found on the Agency website here: https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/LISA OHB, prime contractor for the programme, has been contracted by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the realization of the LISA programme, building the industrial consortium. The objective of the present procurement is the selection of the subcontractor for the Separation Mechanism and LISA Launch Adapter (LLA). The three LISA spacecraft shall be launched in a stack configuration. The LISA Launch Adapter shall provide the structural support and diameter reduction from the launcher interface to the LISA central tube diameter. The Separation System shall be part of each LISA spacecraft and provide the required mechanical connection between each stacked spacecraft and also towards the LLA during launch. Furthermore, the Separation System shall allow for a controlled in-flight separation of the stacked spacecraft as final part of the launch sequence. For the support of the LISA spacecraft assembly, several AIT clampbands shall be provided in addition to the flight Separation System. The procurement of the Separation System and LISA Launch Adapter will be conducted in line with the ESA Best Practices for the Selection of Subcontractors by Prime Contractors in the frame of ESAs Major Procurements.
