Research And Development Services And Related Consultancy Services – Fe 05.0215/2025/Agb - Development Of Construction Methods And Procedures For The Sustainable Use Of Organic Or Organogenic Soils In Earthworks For Road Construction. From A Soil Mechanical And Earth Engineering Perspective, Organic Or Organogenic Soils Initially Represent An Unfavorable Building Material, Which Is Why They Have So Far Been Frequently Replaced In Construction Practice And Disposed Of As Waste. Due To Their High Organic Content, They Also Play An Important Role In Life Cycle Assessment As Carbon Storage And Are Therefore An Asset Worth Protecting. In The Event That Organic Soils Are Replaced With Load-Bearing Material During Construction Work, The Question Arises To What Extent The Removed Soils Can Be Reused As Building Material For Earthworks. From Both A Usability And A Climate Protection Perspective, Decomposition Of The Organic Components And The Associated Settlement Should Be Avoided. In Addition To Replacing The Soil, The Subsurface Can Also Be Improved Using Consolidation Methods And Elevated Construction Methods. However, Both Methods Have Different Advantages And Disadvantages. The Research Project Is Intended To Develop Solutions And Criteria, Particularly For Geotechnical Planning In Road Construction, On How Organic Soils, Etc., Which Are Regularly Encountered During Earthworks, Can Be Dealt With Sustainably And In Accordance With Requirements. To This End, Different Foundation Methods (Consolidation Methods, Elevated Construction Methods, Soil Replacement And Reinstallation) Must Be Compared, Evaluated And Optimized With Regard To Their Suitability, The Associated Emissions Of Greenhouse Gases And Resource Consumption As Well As The Concerns Of Soil And Groundwater Protection And The Costs. The Research Project Is Intended To Make A Significant Contribution To Promoting More Climate-Friendly And Resource-Saving Construction Methods In Earthworks For Road Construction. The Research Is Being Supported By The Affected Working Committees Of Ag 5 And Is Intended To Be Incorporated Into The Road Construction Regulations.
