The Object Of The Acquisition Is The Basic Improvement And Expansion To Be Carried Out At Jaluspolku 3 In Meri-Rastila. There Is Now A Block Of Flats Completed In 1993 On The Construction Site, Which Houses A School, A Daycare Center And A Youth Center. The Block Also Has A Chapel Built At The Same Time. Both Buildings Were Designed By Architect Kaarlo Leppänen. The Helsinki Parish Association Gave Up The Chapel In 2024 And Sold The Building To The City Of Helsinki. The Ground Of The Construction Site Is Owned By The City. The Project Is Named The Meri-Rastila Multipurpose Building. The Multipurpose Building Will Have Facilities For Basic Education, Early Childhood Education, Pre-School Education And A Playground. In Addition, There Is A Youth Center, A Community Center And Home Care Break Rooms On The Premises. The Number Of Students/Places In The Elementary School And Kindergarten Is 604 And The Staff Is Around 100. The Number Of Customers In The Youth Center And Community Center Varies. The Project Started In 2024 With A General, Two-Phase Architectural Competition Organized By The City. With The Help Of The Competition, We Wanted To Find Out How The Well-Established Building Stock Can Be Used And Preserved Within The Framework Of A Rather Demanding Space Program. The Winner Of The Competition, The Proposal Hand In Hand Saves A Significant Part Of The Existing Building Stock While Introducing A Clear New Layer Of New Architecture.
