Tenders are invited for ARGONAUT Side Looking Camera (SCAM) and Bottom Looking Camera (BCAM) OHB System AG, a subsidiary of the European space and technology group OHB SE, is acting as subcontractor to Thales Alenia Space (TAS-I) who has been contracted by the European Space Agency (ESA) as prime Contractor for the realization of the ARGONAUT mission. Under its subcontract, OHB is responsible for the EPS, TT&C and GNC subsystems up to flight readiness. The objective of the present procurement is the selection of the subcontractor for the Argonaut LDE Navigation Cameras, namely the Side Looking Camera (SCAM) and the Bottom Looking Camera (BCAM). The SCAM is used within the Argonaut GNC for crater-based navigation (CNav). The BCAM is used within the Argonaut GNC as hazard sensing device and for Terrain Relative Navigation (TRN). Both cameras are expected to have the same electronics and interfaces, but can have different optics to adapt to the scope of the respective acquisitions. Therefore, both cameras are part of a single procurement. The Navigation Cameras are used in the following phases: Commissioning in Low Lunar Orbit and Elliptical Lunar Orbit before the final descent including test of the full optical chain. During the Descent Phase, the SCAM is used during the Descent Orbit, through the Main Braking Burn until the first hazard sensing opportunity During the Descent Phase, the BCAM is used as part of the sensor suite for hazard detection during the 2 hazard sensing opportunities and is providing during this phase the ground images used for terrain relative velocity estimation. The procurement of the navigation cameras will be conducted in line with the ESA Best Practices for the Selection of Subcontractors by Prime Contractors in the frame of ESAs Major Procurements (reference ESA BEST PRACTICES IPC(2012)65, rev.2). Notwithstanding the complete list of countries identified in the Special Provision for visibility purposes, the ITT letter of invitation will contain a dedicated set of geographical return requirements/targets to be considered.
