The City Of Norden Intends To Hold A Combined Open Space Planning And Urban Development Competition For The Centrally Located And Currently Mostly Fallow Doornkaat Site. The Aim Is To Obtain High-Quality Planning Proposals For The Development Of A New, Identity-Creating Urban District That Both Respects The Historical Existence And Offers Future-Oriented Usage Perspectives. The Competition Area Includes A Contiguous Group Of Buildings And Areas In The Inner-City Area Of The City Of Norden, Which Extends Over Parts Of Two Neighboring, Formally Defined Redevelopment Areas. The Area Was Primarily Used For Industrial Purposes For Many Decades (Including The Doornkaat Distillery) And Today Has Considerable Urban Development Potential - At The Same Time It Is Associated With Particular Challenges In Terms Of Old Buildings, Soil Conditions, Monument Protection And Neighborhoods. The Competition Aims To Develop A Holistic And Sustainable Development Perspective For The Doornkaat Site. The Focus Is In Particular On The Following Aspects: The Revitalization Of The Historic Doornkaat Heritage, Including Listed Existing Buildings, The Development Of A High-Quality, Mixed-Use District With A Variety Of Living, Working, Cultural And Leisure Offerings, A Creatively Sophisticated And Functionally Coherent Open Space Concept That Connects The Entire District Structurally And Atmospherically, The Integration Of Climate-Effective, Ecologically Sustainable Solutions, The Urban Development Integration Into The Surrounding Urban Fabric. Both Sub-Areas - Open Space And Urban Development - Should Be Considered Integrated And Of Equal Importance (This Should Be Questioned, As The Much More Extensive And, Above All, To Be Realized Area Concerns Open Space Planning). A Functional And Design Connection Is A Central Part Of The Task. The Transformation Of The Doornkaat Site Is A Central Key Project For The City Of Norden As Part Of Its Integrated Urban Development.
