Work Detail
Tenders are invited for Next Generation Multi-Beam Scanning Microwave Radiometers for Meteorological Applications - Expro plus (Re-Issue) To define multibeam scanning microwave radiometers for next generation satellite meteorological operational systems. To develop a proof-of-concept breadboard demonstrating the functionality and validating the performance of the critical elements. DescriptionMicrowave radiometers represent a key element of satellite meteorological systems, and are among the instruments providing greater impact to numerical weather prediction uncertainty as well as climate monitoring. Future systems will require the implementation of radiometers with higher accuracy and radiometric resolution. For example, current generation of microwave radiometers for temperatureand humidity sounding (i.e. MWS Microwave Sounder) are based on across-track mechanical scanning of a single beam over a wide swath. This approach, although simple from an implementation point of view, it limits the achievable radiometric resolution, due to the limited integration time per pixel. The implementation of a multibeam system, possibly based on a combination of electronic and mechanical scanning, would allow for much higher observation/integration time per pixel, which, in turn, would provide a substantial performance improvement. This activity addresses at possible microwave radiometers concepts based on multiple-beam scanning, and develops a proof-of-concept breadboard of the instrument front-end for the critical technology. This activity encompasses the following tasks: - Requirements review starting from MetOp-SG and next generation systems - Identification of instrument concepts based on multiple beams and fast hybrid electrical/mechanical scanning, trade-off different antenna front-end architectures and baselineselection - Development of a proof-of-concept breadboard of the critical front-end technology - Functional verification and performance - Roadmap for technology developmentRead more Tender Link : https://esastar-publication-ext.sso.esa.int/ESATenderActions/filter/open
