Tenders are invited for THZ Technologies for Space Objects Detection - Expro plus To develop a ground demonstrator of a THz camera for space object detection. DescriptionDifferent space object detection mechanisms are being considered, and among them (sub)millimetre wave instruments based on state-of-the-art terahertz technologies. One of the main characteristics of (sub) millimetre wave instruments is the possibility of seeing through clouds and dust at certain window frequencies, which are not affected by the atmosphere or adverse weather conditions. This would allow the continuous detection underall weather conditions, even cloudy or foggy, which is a significant advantage with respect to optical instruments. The shorter wavelength of sub-millimetre wave instruments (300 to 3000 GHz) as compared to millimetre wave (30 to 300 GHz), offers opportunitiesfor improved spatial resolution and therefore the possibility of detecting and cataloguing much smaller particles. This is considered of paramount importance for the safe operation of future satellites.(Sub)millimetre wave detection and imaging offer large potential due to the inherent spatial resolution and the all-weather detection capability. This activity aims at studying the current status of this technology and assessing the main SAF- related performance parameters: detectable diameter, measurement accuracy of position, range, and size quantities. Recommendations for further developments shall be given.Ground THz cameras, mainly for security and health applications, have been successfully designed and tested. Although the concept is similar, an optimization of the system in terms of configuration and optics, detector technology and working frequency is required considering the requirements for objectdetection. This activity encompasses the following tasks: - Consolidation of the requirements and assessment of performance parameters - Trade-off analysis of between radiometer and radar technology (passive/active), detector technology and operational frequency should be performed for ability to detect objects in the cm-range at 1000 km distance - Preliminary design - Breadboarding activities - Testing of the demonstrator in laboratory environment - Conclusions and recommendations for further developmentsProcurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required Tender Link : https://esastar-publication-ext.sso.esa.int/ESATenderActions/filter/open
