Tenders are invited for Use of Artificial Intelligence to Support Thermal Engineering Activities - Expro+ Objectives: To enable fast adoption of Artificial Intelligence into thermal community processes to improve efficiency and to reducedevelopment costsDescription The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has exploded in recent years to support wide range ofengineering activities, and the trend is set to continue as new hardware (e.g. Graphical Processing Units (GPU) and analogue computing cores) together with more advanced software platforms become available. These advances will likely not be driven by the space engineering sector, but by a wide range of other sectors. Nonetheless, the space engineering (thermal) domains need to be ready to adopt thesetechnologies as they become available in order to drive efficiency and reducecosts. The expected benefits are twofold:- Reduced development time and cost (e.g. in the case of faster design surveys, faster test correlation or model exchange);- Improved quality and/or performance (e.g. in the case of optimization use case, or use of hitherto unexploited data sets).A number of potential usescases for AI are already envisaged. One of the most noteworthy is the use of surrogate thermal models to support activities such as: fast sizing for design and worst case assessment, faster than real time solutions for digital twins, AI derived reduced models to support advanced control applications, model reduction and correlation, etc.In addition, other uses cases can be envisaged such as exploitation of new data sets (thermal cycling, operations data), for anomaly detection during operations and flight, or optimization of design solutions for advanced thermal control technologies. One of the key challenges is to derive findings that are targeted at normal thermal engineers and the focus of the physical interoperability of AI based solutions to give confidence in their use. This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Critically assess which thermal engineering activities can benefit the most of the useof AI technologies;- Demonstrate the uses of AI to support the chosen use cases and assess performance. Ensure proper interfaces with engineering tools and emerging data models / digital twins;- Derive recommendations from the activity, with a focus on non-AI-specialists, and disseminate to the communitySoftware shall be delivered under an ESA Software Community Licence Tender Link : https://esastar-publication-ext.sso.esa.int/ESATenderActions/filter/open
