Tenders are invited for Consultancy Service for AgroForestry, Environmental, and Climate Change Assessment of Cashew Farming Funded by the European Commission, the STRIVE project is a four-year action aiming to enhance the resilience and livelihoods of 7,280 smallholder farmersprimarily indigenous womenin Ratanakiri and Stung Treng, Cambodia. Implemented by Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) in partnership with Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) and Bandos Komar (BK), the action promotes climate-smart agriculture, gender equity, and environmentally sustainable practices. Cashew farming is a major livelihood in these provinces, but current practices face challenges from climate change, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable land use. There is a need to integrate agroforestry systems, environmental protection measures, and climate change adaptation strategies into cashew production to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience. This assessment will provide evidence-based recommendations for climatesmart agroforestry models, identify suitable intercrops, and propose environmental and biodiversity conservation measures. The findings will inform updates to the projects climateresilient practice and product safety curriculum/training manual and guide the development of IEC materials for awarenessraising. Specific objectives: · Assess current cashew farming systems in the target provinces, including land preparation, soil improvement, seedling plantation, fertilizer and pesticide uses, pest control, water management, harvests, biodiversity, and climate vulnerability. · Identify suitable crops and tree species for integration into cashew agroforestry systems that improve productivity, diversify income, and enhance ecosystem services. · Evaluate environmental and climate risks affecting cashew production and recommend adaptation and mitigation measures. · Document indigenous and local knowledge relevant to sustainable cashew farming and climate resilience. · Provide actionable recommendations for updating the climateresilient practice and product safety curriculum/training manual and for developing IEC materials. Expected Outputs: · Comprehensive assessment report covering: · Current cashew farming practices and environmental impacts. · Agroforestry models suitable for local conditions. · Climate change risks and adaptation strategies. · Biodiversity conservation and deforestation prevention measures. · List of recommended intercrops and tree species for integration into cashew systems. · Practical guidelines for climatesmart cashew agroforestry tailored to indigenous communities. · Recommendations for curriculum updates and IEC material content. · Presentation of findings to Johanniter and partners. Bidder Eligibility ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE CONSULTANT o Advanced degree in Agroforestry, Environmental Science, Climate Change, or related fields. o Minimum 5 years experience in agroforestry, climate change adaptation, and environmental assessments. o Proven experience working with indigenous and rural communities in Cambodia. o Strong skills in participatory research, GIS/mapping, and climate risk analysis. o Excellent English report writing o The provider must have a track record in designing and assessing with approaches grounded in human-centered design. o Excellent English report writing; Khmer language skills preferred. The consultant must adhere to Johanniters data protection policy during collection, processing, and storage of data. This assignment is part of the STRIVE project, implemented with the financial assistance of the European Union.
