Tenders are invited for Cryogenic Testing of Structural Components for Propulsion Applications - Expro plus To develop test capabilities and generate performance data for CFRP components subject to mechanical loads in presence of large thermal gradients DescriptionNovel designs and advanced materials offer distinct advantages in strength/weight ratio, leading to mass savings and improved performance. Limited availability of test data and test facilities reduces the ability to assess/chose candidate materials and design solutions for use in a variety of structural launcher components when operating in challenging thermal environments.Critical structural components may operate under large thermal gradients during flight operation. Current conceptual designs of liquid propulsion systems foresee the use of structural items coupling cold components (e.g. cryo-tanks) to hot parts like thrust structures. Validation and verification of such design features becomes very complex and difficult to be performed in a representative thermal environment. Reliable test data on material performance under such large thermal gradients are thus increasingly valuable for current and future development and applications such as in launcher propulsion systems. This activity aims at developing unique testing capabilities and tools that allow representative testing of advanced structures under mechanical loads and complex thermal environments, i.e. application of static and dynamic mechanical loads and simultaneously large thermal gradients through structural components. The data is aimed to enable mechanical performance evaluation as well as model validation of advanced design concepts. This activity encompasses the following tasks: - Identification of features in space structural designs that experience high mechanical loads concomitant with large thermal gradients. Possible candidates are COPV/skirt connections, interface between cryogenic tank and engine thrust frame, structural fixtures and interfaces for cryogenic components. - Definition of testing requirements - Manufacturing of representative test specimens - Design the test for performing mechanical loading in superposition with application of large thermal gradients - Representative testing of the manufactured hardware in the representative thermal/mechanical environmentDeliverables Hardware, ReportProcurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl.
