Quotation are invited for Appointment of a Consultant to Render Enviromental Services at Makhado Local Municipality Landfill 1. Makhado landfill site Operational The landfill site is located on portion 1 of farm Rietvlei 276-LS in Louis Trichardt. G.M.B- 12/9/11/L413/5 2. Vondeling landfill site Closed The landfill site is located on remainder of portion 7 of farm Bergvliet 288 LS in Louis Trichardt. Closed 12/9/11/L/729/5 SCOPE OF WORK The consultant will be required to perform, amongst others, the following duties: 3.1 Water Quality Monitoring The consultant is required to carry out analysis of ground and surface water on each site as prescribed by the Minimum Requirements issued by Department of Environment and Water Affairs (DWA), 1998. The ultimate goal for monitoring is to establish the trends in water quality and determine possible pollution which may be as a result of day-to-day operations of the landfill site and post closure. Section 7 of the Minimum Requirements for Water Monitoring at Waste Management Facilities (Second Edition 2008) describes the Analytical Variables which are suggested in a comprehensive analysis and an indicator analysis. Ground and surface water samples should be submitted to an SANAS accredited laboratory. Provide ground and surface water sampling results. A detailed water quality report with the interpretation of the results must be submitted to the municipality. The samples will be collected from the following sites: Makhado landfill site- two (2) boreholes and leachate dam. Vondeling landfill site- two (2) boreholes. 3.2 Soil Quality Monitoring The service provider is expected to compile a desktop study report detailing all available information. To carry out a site visit and walkover to assess the site in terms of topography, land cover, drainage and the overall physical appearance and current status of the site. Collect soil samples from within the landfill site for soil contamination analysis. Samples should be submitted to SANAS accredited Lab for analysis. Soil quality must be performed in and around the site and the monitoring results must be compared to the quality of soil collected 100 to 200 metres away from the closed site. six (6) samples should be collected. A detailed soil quality assessment report with the interpretation of the results must be submitted to the municipality. 4.
