Work Detail

Tenders are invited for Procurement of Envision Spacecraft Propulsion Interface Unit. Open Date: 26/08/2025 12:48 CET Closing Date: 03/10/2025 13:00 CET Price Range: 500 KEURO EnVision is a Venus orbiter mission selected by ESAs Science Programme Committee as the fifth Medium-class mission in the Agencys Cosmic Vision plan. It will be the first mission to investigate Venus from its inner core to its upper atmosphere, characterising the interaction between its atmosphere, surface/subsurface and interior. It aims at providing a holistic view of Venus, studying the planets history, activity, and climate. An overview of the EnVision mission and its objectives can be found on the Agency website here: https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/EnVision_factsheet. Thales Alenia Space Italia (TAS-I) is issuing this ITT as EnVision Prime Contractor, and conducting the procurement under the principles of ESA Best Practices for the selection of subcontractors. TAS-I will release an Invitation To Tender for the procurement of the Propulsion Interface Unit. The Propulsion Interface Unit (PIU) is integral to propulsion management and is composed of two functional sections, identified as PIU-M (Main) and PIU-R (Redundant), each encompassing essential functions for the control and monitoring of propulsion systems: Core Functions: Each PIU section integrates a Core Function TM/TC (Telemetry/Telecommand) interface that interfaces with the On-Board Computer (OBC) via a redundant Mil-Std-1553 bus. This interface is paramount in regulating the operation and coordination of all functions within the PIU section. Standard Interface Modules: PIU section feature standard interface modules responsible for acquiring telemetry signals that are vital for propulsion system monitoring. These include the status acquisition from Bi-level State Monitor (BSM), telemetry signals from Temperature Sensor Modules (TSM1, TSM2), Thermal Control Module (THCM), and data from the Analog Sensor Module (ASM). Propulsion Interface Modules: Each PIU section incorporates propulsion interface modules designed to manage various aspects of the spacecraft propulsion system. These modules handle the powering and data acquisition of pressure transducers, control different types of valves, including latching valves, flow control valves, main engine control valves, and evacuation valves. Additionally, these modules provide specific control for memory-allow valves with protected heater lines and acquire signals from separation straps. Power Management: The PIU sections are equipped with two DC/DC power interfaces: one dedicated to the core function and standard interface module, and the other dedicated to the propulsion module, ensuring reliable and isolated power supply to critical propulsion functions. This division of functionality within each PIU section supports robust propulsion system management and enhances overall spacecraft operational integrity.
