Since 2014, CHF International has been providing humanitarian assistance in Syria through a principled, community-centered, and resilience-oriented approach. Operating from its regional base in Gaziantep, Southern Turkey, the organization collaborates with local Syrian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to implement vital programming across Northern Syria. Core sectors of intervention include food security, shelter, livelihoods, protection, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). This cross-border operational model facilitates access to hard-to-reach areas while ensuring contextual relevance through trusted local partners. The humanitarian crisis in Syria remains one of the most severe globally, driven by over 13 years of protracted conflict, recurrent displacement, economic collapse, climate shocks, and natural disasters. As of 20242025, needs have deepened dramatically across all sectors. Food insecurity is widespread, affecting an estimated 12.9 million people, exacerbated by drought-like conditions, high fuel and input costs, and declining agricultural productivitywheat yields remain 46 percent below pre-crisis averages. Currency depreciation, worsened by the February 2023 earthquakes and continued military offensives, has triggered inflation and eroded household purchasing power, driving up the costs of basic goods and further limiting access to essential services. Shelter needs have surged, with 6.8 million people requiring support, due to earthquake destruction, cumulative conflict-related damage, and the ongoing return intentions among displaced populations. WASH infrastructure has also suffered significant damage, with 13.56 million people in need, including growing numbers in newly affected areas. Only 54 percent of the population has access to improved water sources, and operational capacity of service providers continues to diminish. Protection risks are acute and widespread, with 15.3 million people facing harassment, violence, and denial of basic rights and services. This complex and deteriorating situation underlines the urgency and scale of the response needed to address the multidimensional vulnerabilities of affected Syrians.
