Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority
The Ludhiana Downtown Project, brainchild of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, is moving into the execution stage. Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) is looking for alternative space for 16 Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPCL) offices located on the 32-acre chunk owned by PSPCL on Ferozepur Road, which is where the project will come up. Officers will be shifted to an alternative location for the execution of the project. Buildings and houses on the stretch will be razed and rent compensation will be granted for people living in the housing colony. Of the total of 32 acres, 25 will be used for the downtown, for which a private player on design, build, operate, maintain and transfer (DBOMT) basis will pool in. Remaining seven acres will be dedicated to construction of the multi-storey residential and official complex of PSPCL. Earlier, the high court issued a stay order on the project, which was removed on the assurance of alternatives to PSPCL staff by GLADA. "GLADA has been given time till May 31, 2014 to provide alternatives for 16 offices and 600 flats of the staff. The project will most probably be accomplished in the next three years of the execution stage", said the source.
