The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has given administrative sanction for the implementation of two projects to generate a total of 60MW electricity. The decision was taken at the director board meeting held on Saturday. The board has decided to augment electricity generation by 36MW from the two gas units at Brahmapuram and 24MW at Bhoothathankettu.
The two defunct diesel units at Brahmapuram diesel power plant will be replaced with gas engines, each of which will have potential of 18MW, and for that the government has given an administrative clearance of Rs 144.80 crore. Initially, LNG will be imported for use at Brahmapuram and the domestic supplies of LNG are expected soon. It is for the first time in the state that gas based electricity generation project is being set up.
For Bhoodathankettu small scale hydro power project, the board has decided to entrust power house construction work jointly to Saravana Engineering Bhavani - RPP Infra. It will incur an expenditure of Rs 86.81 crore. These agencies have been entrusted with the work at 18.09% less that the estimated expenditure.
It was also decided to enhance the power of 13km long 66KV single circuit power line from Puthukad to Kattu. It will be enhanced to 110 KV double circuit line. With that, two feeder bays will be set up at Puthukad substation and for that the government has given an administrative sanction of Rs 11.2 crore.
The 20.62 km long single circuit line from Thalassery 110 KV substation to Vadakara 110 KV substation will also be enhanced to double circuit line and for that construction work at a cost of Rs 5.23 crore will be handed over to an Orissa based firm New Modern Technomech.
For completion of the abandoned power house construction works of Kakkayam small scale Irrigation projects, the government has sanctioned Rs 10.75 crore.
The KSEB has also decided to implement security protocol permit to work to prevent electricity related accidents for the workers and public.
