Econsult Developing A Climate Smart Mining And Energy Transition Module For The Mining Sector DiagnosticThe Objective Of The Work Is To Develop A Climate Smart Mining Csm Module Within The Existing Msd That Addresses The Mining Sector Specific Issues Related To The Transition To A Low Carbon Future Excluding Aspects Of The Just Transition Which Will Form Part Of A Separate Msd Investigation The Csm Module Should Be Either A Stand Alone Module In The Sense That New Assessment Areas Are Added To The Msd And It Could Consist Of A Set Of Questions That Are Integrated Into The Existing Msd Format And Can Be Extracted For Separate Analysis This Will Allow For A Focused Country Engagement On Decarbonization And Improved Resilience But Also Allow For Broader Sector Engagement Depending On Client Country Requirements Climate Mitigation Adaptation Reducing Material Impacts And The Creation Of Marketing Activities Require Coordinated Action Among Multiple Stakeholders If Countries And Companies Are To Meet Their Paris Agreement Ambitions As A Result Those Aspects Of Governance That Either Result In Direct Government Action Or Unlock Private Sector Capital Will Touch On Multiple Sectors And Stakeholders Beyond The Extractives Industries Department Of The World Bank And Clients Of Ida And Ibrd The World Bank Recognizes This And As A Result The Scope Of This Msd Module Should Not Be Limited To The Extractive Industries Department But Rather It Should Identify Those Key Aspects Of Governance That A Whole Of Bank Or Whole Of Government Approach Could Improve And Accelerate Action For The Energy Transition While Keeping The Number Of Actions Or Indicators Focused On Those Most Material Aspects Only
