eConsult ALGERIA DATES VALUE CHAIN MAPPINGDespite being the 4th largest producer of dates globally with an annual production of approximately 1 million tons Algerias export does not exceed 50 000 tons per year less than 5 percent of total production Most of the domestic production is consumed locally and Algeria ranks the 2nd largest date consumption market globally Nevertheless dates occupy 2 of the total horticulture surface of the country and the first place in the exports of agricultural products from Algeria ObjectivesThe overall objective of this IFC intervention is to complete an analysis of the Algerian dates value chain with a clear sight of investment potential This will include a mapping of the full value chain and key players as well as an assessment of any potential interest from regional players in the Algerian market
