Geological and Geophysical InstrumentsConsultation Distributed Acoustic Sensing DAS Description As part of their running research efforts the Department of Geoscience and Engineering of the TU Delft has an increasing interest in monitoring the subsurface using fibre optic technologies A main interest lies in the use of fibre optic technology for seismic monitoring known as Distributed Acoustic Sensing DAS Such a system makes use of Rayleigh scattering which is caused by scatterers in the optical fibre This technology and its applications are being researched with optical fibres deployed at or near the surface and in boreholes
