Child Has A Right To Live In An Environment That Is Conducive To His Or Her Growth And Safety Including Being Protected From Pollutants And Other Hazards And Yet Climate Change Weak Local And National Governance Insufficient Awareness Of The Dangers Posed By Environmental Risks Including Inadequate Water And Sanitation Expose Children To Potential Risk Suriname As A Low Lying Country Is Particularly Vulnerable To Climate Change Floods And Drought Have Had Significant Impacts On Suriname Flooding In The Interior Of Suriname In The Recent Years Caused Major Impact On Communities Having Access To Clean Drinking Water And Access To Good Sanitation In Addition The Flooding Impacted Children Having Access To Schools And Health Services For Instance In 2017 In Response To The Flooding Of Villages In The Upper Marowijne Catchment Caused By Unexpected Heavy Rainfalls Unicef Paho Government Of Suriname Developed Wash Project To Support The Installation Of Rainwater Harvesting Tanks And Vip Latrines Serving 90 Of The Affected Population 2700 People In 11 Villages In Total Ensuring Local Communities Have Access To Safe Drinking Water And Good Sanitation Facilities And Increasing Awareness Of Local Communities Including Children In Schools On Hygiene Practices In The Previous Two Years Unicef Suriname In Collaboration With The Nccr Worked To Build A Systematic And Inclusive Child Centered Risk Analysis Through The Introduction Of Identified Tools As Part Of Strategies For Enhancing Information Management Capacities And Building Foundations For Risk Informed Programming To Address The Need For Strengthening ChildrenS Resilience To The Impacts Of Climate Change And To Improve Adaptive Capacity To Emergencies The Caribbean Risk Information Tool Crit Will Allow The Country To Assess The Aggregate Risk Faced By Exposure To Hazards Present In A Community Or District Level The Critt Is An Assessment Tool Aiding In Easily Identifying Areas Within A Country Which Require More Attention For Comprehensive Disaster Management Cdm Planning With The Special Focus On Children The Overall Goal Is To Lessen Vulnerabilities And Improve Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity On A Community Level In Addition To Strengthen The Information Database Unicef Suriname Is Planning To Conduct A Climate Landscape Analysis For Children Examining The Baseline Situation Of Climate Energy And Environment Related Issues Affecting Children And How They Relate To The Countries And To UnicefS Priorities The Analysis Will Include Stakeholders Government Policies And Relevant Programmes Related To Environment And Climate Change In Suriname It Will Also Provide Recommendations On How Unicef Suriname Could Further Incorporate And Strengthen Work On Climate Energy And
