Tenders Are Invited For Guinea Bissau International Consultancy To Support The Implementation Of A Nutrition Survey Using Smart Methods In Guinea Bissau Unicef Works In Some Of The WorldS Toughest Places To Reach The WorldS Most Disadvantaged Children To Save Their Lives To Defend Their Rights To Help Them Fulfill Their Potential Across 190 Countries And Territories We Work For Every Child Everywhere Every Day To Build A Better World For Everyone And We Never Give Up For Every Child A ChampionUnicef Guinea Bissau Has Been Operational For More Than 40 Years With Programmes Across The Following Sectors Child Protection Education Health Hiv Nutrition And Wash The Current Country Programme Was Developed In 2015 And Will Span January 2016 Until December 2020 Under This Country Programme Unicef Nutrition Program Will Pursue Multi Sectoral Interventions With A Focus On The First 1 000 Days And Preventive Activities Guinea Bissau Has A Small But Young And Rapidly Growing Population The Estimated Population For The Year 2018 Is 1 9 916 966 Million People Un Projection Of Whom 48 Per Cent Are Children 0 17 Years Old The Country Has Been Urbanising Rapidly With About Half The Population Now Living In Towns And Cities Agriculture Forestry Fishing And Livestock Continue To Account For About 50 Per Cent Of Gross Domestic Product Prominent With Cashew Nut Cultivation Food Insecurity Is A Recurrent Threat For Much Of The Population Of Guinea Bissau A 2017 Wfp Survey Revealed That Only 16 Of Rural Households Were Food Secure While 64 Were At Risk Of Falling In Food Insecurity And 20 Were In Situation Of Dood Insecurity Wfp 2017 The Regions Of Quinara 27 Cacheu 22 2 Oio 22 5 Were Among The Most Food Insecure With Rates Above The National Average The Disparities Are More Pronounced At Sector Level With The Sectors Of Uno 36 7 Tite 33 3 Mansoa 32 8 Komo 32 2 Boe 31 1 E Saodomingos 31 7 Being The Most Affected By Food Insecurity Guinea Bissau Conducted A National Nutrition Survey In 2012 Using The Smart Methodology Which Indicated That The Nutrition Situation In Guinea Bissau Is Critical With 17 5 Of Children Under Five Were Suffering From Underweight And 27 7 Being Stunted Acute Malnutrition Wasting Is Affecting 6 5 Of Under Five Children With A Range From 9 8 In Bafata Region To 3 1 In Cacheu Region Boys Are More Affected Than Girls With Respectively A Rate Of 7 4 And 5 6 There Are Large Disparities In All Forms Of Under Nutrition Across The Regions Of The Country The Regions Of Bafata Oio Sab And Gabu Are The Most Affected By Wasting These Data Should Be Updated In Order To Monitor And Assess Progress Towards National And Sdg Targets As Malnutrition Is A Significant Contributor To Child Morbidity And Mortality And In Order To Continue Monitoring The Food And Nutrition Security Situation It Is Critical To Have Quality Relevant And Timely Information The National Nutrition Service Ministry Of Health In Collaboration With Unicef And Other Stakeholders Coordination Group Have Proposed To Conduct A New National Nutrition Survey Using Standardized Monitoring And Assessment Of Relief And Transitions Smart Method During The Months Of April July 2019 The Smart Nutrition Survey Will Provide Data For Timely Action Resource Mobilization Programme Planning Including Informing The Next Mid Term Review Of The Country Programme As Well As For Long Term Monitoring For The Government Ngos And Other Nutrition Stakeholders To Support An Effective Planning And Implementation Of The Smart Survey The Service Of An International Consultant To Be Coordinating The Survey At L3 Level Is Required For A 105 Days Period During Which The Consultant Will Accomplish The Tasks Outlined In The Section Below ObjectiveThe General
