The Fisheries Monitoring Unit Within The Maritime And Water Authority Must Procure A Concession For Vms-Related Services And Technology For Hav And Swedish Fishing Vessels. Control Regulation (Ec) 1224/2009 States That Member States Must Use A Satellite-Based Vessel Monitoring System (Vessel Monitoring System, Vms) In Order To Effectively Monitor Fishing Activities Carried Out By Fishing Vessels Flying Their Flag, Regardless Of Their Location. The Requirement Applies To Fishing Vessels With A Total Length Of 12 Meters Or More. The Control Regulation States That Fishing Vessels Are Obliged To Bring Equipment And Communicate, Among Other Things. Identity, Position, Course And Speed To The Authoritys Control System. The Authority Conducts A Concession Procurement, Which Means That Hav Appoints A Data Service Provider That Provides A Satellite Tracker Suitable For Swedish Fishing With A Satellite Subscription For Communication And Related Services.
