UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) to set up four power units of 660MW each in the state. This, in a way, would increase the generation capacity of state-owned power plants by nearly 50%.
While one 660MW unit is proposed to be installed in Panki and Harduaganj each, two units each of 600MW will be installed in Karchana in Allahabad. UPRVUNL, chairman, Kamran Rizvi confirmed that the proposal for a 600MW in Panki and two units of 660MW in Karchana is scheduled to be put forth before the state cabinet for approval soon. "The corporation will have bidders for execution of the projects by the year end," he said.
The move to hand over Karchhana to the state-owned UPRVUNL has come months after the Jaypee group backed out of the proposal following problems in land acquisition. The company, although, would be setting up a power plant in Bara block of Allahabad.
Bidding has already been initiated for Harduaganj. For this, companies like Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Alstom and Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) have already turned up. "The lowest bidder will be chosen in the month of August," Rizvi said. He added that the said super critical units will have state of the art machines. The state government has already got coal linkage for Harduaganj power plant. Rizvi said coal will be procured from the Chandipara coal block in Odisha. "With this. we would have additional 2500MW power,'' Rizvi said. Around 2500 to 2800MW of power is produced by the state-owned power plants.
The new power units are proposed to be set up within a time frame of four years. Rizvi said they are confident of getting bids from interested companies in the next few months. Sources said the state government may also not face much of hurdles in getting coal blocks for the said power plants.
Sources said the state government will receive funds from the power finance corporation (PFC) as well as the rural electrification corporation (REC) for installation of these power plants.
