Union ministry of tourism has accorded an in-principle approval for setting up a State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology at Kottayam. The state tourism department submitted a project proposal amounting to Rs 30 crore for setting up the institute and Union tourism ministry has assured a financial assistance of Rs 12 crore.
A key proposal in the tourism draft policy was to strengthen human resources in the hospitality industry, said a tourism department official. "The sanction to release a first installment of Rs 4 crore of the central financial assistance was accorded in September. The project is expected to be implemented in 36 months. Five acres of land has been identified at Puliyannor," he said.
