Ahmedabad-based VMukti Solutions has bagged an order from Election Commission (EC) and other security agencies for supply of customised tablets for video surveillance of poll booths in seven states. Using its remote video streaming solutions along with its bandwidth aggregator technology, VMukti will provide cloud-based video surveillance and streaming of poll booths during elections this year. The company has so far bagged order for states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal and Jharkhand, among others. “We have tied up with a Taiwan-based tablet supplier for manufacturing several tablets that will be embedded with special video streaming chips. The use of tablets for video surveillance will be first time during general elections in the country. These can be placed anywhere and can run even during power cut. They will stream video via cloud computing to control centres using multiple SIM cards for good bandwidth,” said Hardik Sanghvi, chief executive officer at VMukti Solutions. The tablets will be deployed in at least 2,500-3,000 poll booths in these states. The company is, however, in talks for deployment in other states even as polling enters its next phase. The company had earlier developed a mobile video uplink device that can upload videos of good bandwidth from CCTV cameras instantly. The device when attached to a camera can instantly upload videos on the Internet instead of just saving it as data in DVR cassettes, compact discs (CDs) or universal serial buses (USBs). The device uses bandwidth from installed multiple SIM cards to upload the videos. While the company had launched the portable broadcasting device for media and security sector few months ago, it has now tied up with Taiwan and Hong Kong based original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to manufacture cameras with built-in uplink device which can use bandwidth of four SIM cards simultaneously. “It is this bandwidth aggregator technology that will be used in the tablets for monitoring poll booths too during voting. These tablets also carry enough battery life,” Sanghvi added while refusing to divulge revenue details of the order. Meanwhile, earlier VMukti Solutions had launched a portable broadcasting device as a substitute to outside broadcasting (OB) vans. Named ‘VCU Backpack’ for Rs 8 lakhs that could directly broadcast any video or audio feeds using a data card Internet connection.
